At GAME we partner with a handful of Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the United States, some of which are our most successful racers. What the Boys and Girls Clubs of America stand for, and what they do for the youth of our country is absolutely amazing. The first Boys and Girls club was organized by a group of women in Hartford, Connecticut who felt that the overwhelming amount of boys roaming the streets deserved a positive change in life. Since that time the club grew into the Boys Club Federation of America, however, in 1990 the name was changed to the Boys and Girls Club of America, recognizing girls as part of their cause. Today, the Boys and Girls Clubs are located in all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and US military bases.
The Boys and Girls Clubs are devoted to taking in young boys and girls off the streets and teaching them about character, arts, health and life and sports and fitness just to name a few. A lot of the funding for clubs comes from donors, however, some chapters such as the chapter in Knoxville, Tennessee conduct fundraising events. These fundraising events not only assist in the much needed funds to run a chapter, but brings awareness to what the club does and stands for. If you are not directly tied into the Boys and Girls Club of America you can still step up to the plate by donating or taking part in one of their fundraising events. If funds are tight and it is not feasible take the opportunity to volunteer at your local Boys and Girls Clubs and help have an impact on a child.
